In Reply to: SAMUEL AND MARY HEALD, of Mere by Bill Heald of 1078

Thanks for posting the details of this macabre story!
I found a couple more mentions, presumably referring to the same Samuel:

* According to the IGI a Samuel Heald married Mary Barlow in Macclesfield on 14 Nov 1739.

The IGI also gives four children for Samuel and Mary in Mere, but not John or Joshua.

All the entries are patron-submitted, not from C of E parish records -- it looks like you've been able to find a more detailed register?

* The index of Cheshire Wills lists an 'admon' (appointment of an administrator) still preserved in the county records for the estate of Samuel Heald, yeoman, of Mere granted in 1762.

No inventory survives, but the text of the admon might confirm Samuel's relatives.

* Gary Williams' database heald04 on Rootsweb's WorldConnect system includes:
Samuel Heald, d. Mere 22 Oct 1762 & buried at Mobberley 24 Oct 1762,
He cites "Deaths of Healds in England, Cheshire Mo. Meeting of Friends, 1667 to 1837, by Chas Hoyland"

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=heald04&id=I3661

According to Gary, this Samuel would have been a nephew of Samuel your ancestor who crossed the Atlantic; he gives the descent

---1 William HEALD b: ABT. 10 JAN 1646 d: 20 AUG 1677
--- + Jane DUNBABIN d: 9 AUG 1677
------ 2 Samuel HEALD I b: 12 SEP 1668 d: OCT 1736
------ + Mary BANCROFT b: 13 MAY 1673 d: 1736
--------- 3 ...
------ 2 William HEALD b: 18 SEP 1671 d: 2 JUL 1731
------ + Hannah TRAVIS b: 1675 d: 18 SEP 1757
--------- 3 Samuel HEALD d: 22 OCT 1762
--------- 3 William HEALD d: 28 DEC 1776
--------- 3 Thomas HEALD b: ABT. 1712 d: 9 AUG 1807
------ 2 Mary HEALD b: 5 JUN 1675
------ 2 John HEALD b: ABT. 1670 d: 1740
------ + Martha FODEN d: 28 MAY 1753
--------- 3 ...

where Samuel and John both crossed to the New World and had many descendents.

[Cheshire Records Office has wills for both William Heald, yeoman of Mobberley (proved 1777) and Thomas Heald, yeoman, of Over Tabley (proved 1808). Has anybody looked at these?]

* It looks like Bill you may be ahead of Gary here, because I see the site for Tower Wharf, Chester quotes you "I believe that Samuel's (born 7 Dec 1709) parents were William and Hannah Heald of Nether Walton."

My own ancestors appear to be closely related to Healds at Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire, just over the border from Cheshire, in the 1760s.

I would be very grateful if you have and could post any more information about Healds in the Macclesfield / Cheshire area after Samuel emigrated, to find out whether there is any chance the two families may be linked.
