Taken from web site www.healdfamily.org

Notes below from Robert W. Heald (John of Concord)

Names in records of property and historical documents have used the names of Heald, Herald, Hales, Held, Hield, Heild, Hale, Haile, Hele, Heal, Hail, Haill, and probably others. This is not hard to understand if you are with that surname, as we constantly correcting our name; both in spelling and pronunciations.

While no one knows where the name Heald first came into existence, no one should take pot shots at the explanations above, as they only add to interesting conjecture and discussion in relationship to genealogy, and have no other intent or justification. Please be kind in your comments, and add more insight if you have something to say. Your comments are welcome.

This applies to the crest as well, as no one has any information to prove anything about the origin of the Heald Crest as it appears in the web site. Conjecture and discussion are welcome, but it does not provide any amusement or pleasure to take pot shots at anyone's comments or to restrict one from also providing their observations.

Only two things are for certain, death and taxes. When it all comes down to it, genealogy means little to anyone except for the pleasure it gives one at the moment of observation. I have seen so many errors made in my short time in observing the "genealogists" that I give little credance to the most knowledgeable.

Enjoy life. It is too short for pot shots.
