Dear Patty,
I have from the Stow (MA) Vital Records book on page 50 that Dorcas Heald was the daughter of Oliver Heald/Hale and Hannah Gates. Born 12/15/1718.
She was married to Benjamin Whitcomb....
A few sources you may want to check out regarding Oliver Heald/Hale would be:
Compendium of American Genealogy, First Families of America, Published by A.N. Marquis and Co., Chicago, Il, Edited by Frederick Varkus, pg 218
Stow Vital Records to 1850, Published by The New England Historical and Genealogical Society at the charge of The Eddy Town Record Fund, Boston, MA; Stanhope Press, F. H. Gilson Co., Boston, MA
Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County, MA, Published by the Lewis Publishing Co,; New York, Chicago; 1907, Vol.III, Ellery Bicknell Crane, pg 122
John Heald of Concord, MA and Some of His Descendants, Unpublished, 1940, Clarence Almon Torrey (This is an unpublished manuscript which is at the NEGHS in Boston, MA - but it is possible to have portions or all of it copied - for a fee)
There is also an unpublished manuscript at the Gleason Library in Carlisle, MA which was compiled by a Martha Fifield Wilkens. She has many references to the Healds/Hales in her manuscripts.
That said....if you have trouble accessing any or all of these volumes I have the portions mentioned photocopied if you would like me to send them off to you.....
I hope this has been helpful. Please, feel free to contact me at rahamel@yahoo.com
Rebecca
