Thank you so much for making the Heady Newsletter available to so many. It is a valuable resource. I would like to offer some additions and corrections to that which was submitted for Abner Goodwin’s family in the latest posting. The first being, Abner stated he had 18 living children when he wrote his will on Sept 8, 1949. Only 13 children are mentioned by name in his will, but by following the probate records from beginning to the final settlement of his estate the other five are identified. The records show these are the 18 children. Benton and Mary; Milton, my son; Helen, my daughter; James, Lewis H. and Christopher C., my sons; Cela, my daughter; George, son; Malinda, my daughter; Charlota, my daughter; Rebecca; my daughter; Newton Thomas, my youngest son. America Goodwin; Matilda Alloway; John Goodwin, Martha Beck, and Hannah Carmack,. With the establishing that he had only 18 living in 1849, and all 18 have been identified, it can be ruled out that a Seth 4 who lived 1825-1851 is a son of Abner. Abner would have said he had 19 children if that was so. Celia and John Tabor applied for a marriage license in Owen County, Indiana on Mar 2, 1839. In 1850 Celia Tabor is enumerated in Owen County, Indiana with these four children Abner 8, Amacy 6, Clorinda 3, and Lewis C. 1. In 1849 Celia filed for divorce from John Tabor. Probate records of Abner's estate indicate she is deceased by Jan 1853. John Tabor died in Dec 1853. James Goodwin (Jan 28, 1856, Petition for Partition of Estate of Abner Goodwin) ---- Amasa, Lewis C, America C. are non residents of State of Indiana - -also that said Abner, America C, Lewis C. and Amasa Tabor are minors …. OWEN CO INDIANA PROBATE VOL. 2, pg. 134 Oct 28, 1857 heirs Of Celia Tabor to wit, Abner, Amasa, Lewis C. & America C. Tabor; James A. Francher infant son of America Fancher deceased; -- cause stricken from docket. The above records clearly show America Goodwin did not marry Lewis Tabor. The America C. shown in the petition is Clorinda sister of Lewis and daughter of Celia and John Tabor. (Note the middle initial C.) It can also be said Celia did not marry a Joesph Landman. Probate records for America Fancher shows her husband was Charles. Cemetery records of Sullivan County, Missouri provide she died 6 Aug 1855- following the birth of their son, James in July 1855. Abner’s son, John, was first married to a Nancy J.. They are residing in Benton County Washington and had 10 children. They were divorced by 1900 and he later married Mary Case a widow.
