Sorry to tell you that I have nothing on the parents of Thomas S. Headen. However, I like your logic on this one.
A "Thos. S. Headon" served as the bondsman for your Anna Maria Headon's marriage to Robert D. Freeland on 21 Oct 1823, Maury Co., TN [TN, Marriages, 1787-1866 Marriage Records, online, Marriage Bonds, Page 174].
Also, note that Margaret "Peggy" Moore's sister, Jane Moore, married Thomas Freeland on 23 Feb 1820 (sol. 24 Feb 1820), in Maury Co., TN [TN, Marriages, 1787-1866 Marriage Records, online, Marriage Register 1, 1808-1837, Page 15]. The 1850 census shows them living next door to your Ann(a) Maria and Robert D. Freeland in Henry Co., TN. Robert D. & Ann Maria are found in household 72-72. The Ann Maria Freeland entry indicates that she was born in NC. In the event that you do not already have this information, here is the household listing:
Dist. 18, Henry Co., TN, household 72-72
Freeland, Robert D., 52, farmer, $1500, NC
Freeland, Ann Maria, 42, NC
Freeland, Allen D., 21, farming, TN
Freeland, Mary Jane, 19, TN
Freeland, Constantine, 17 male, farming, TN
Freeland, Amanda E., 11, TN
Freeland, Houston ??????, 9 male, TN [canít read the middle name, but it appears to be at least 5-6 characters in length]
Freeland, Maria A., 5, TN
Dalton, Reuben, 27, KY
[Robert D. Freeland household, 1850 U.S. census, Henry Co., TN, population schedule, Dist. 18, p. 411, 72-72; National Archives micropublication M432_884.]

Freeland, Thomas, 52, farmer, NC
Freeland, Jane, 49, KY
Freeland, Wm. E. A., 24, farmer, TN
Freeland, Thomas J., 22 , farmer, TN
Freeland, Nancy J., 16, TN,sch.
Freeland, Mary M., 13, TN, sch.
Freeland, Emily R., 11, TN, sch.
Freeland, Robt. A., 8, TN, sch
McMurray, Josiah T.R?, 24, farmer, TN, mar in yr

[Thomas Freeland household, 1850 U.S. census, Henry Co., TN, population schedule, Dist. 18, p. 411, 73-73; National Archives micropublication M432_884.]

Have you seen the RootsWeb WorldConnect entries that indicate Thomas S. Headen was the son of Brantley Jones (one entry shows Brantley Jones Headen, and another gives fathers name as Brantley Jones, only) and Phoebe Brooks? The following link is to the one that shows his father as "Brantley Jones":
I have no research that confirms or disputes the above. However, the 1850 household of Thomas S. Headen shows the following inhabitants (note the 10 year old Brantly Headen):
Headen, Thomas, 47, Physician, 1000, NC
Headen, Margaret, 47, KY
Headen, ?Ferrell?, 22 m, clerk, TN [given name could be Terrell]
Headen, Mary, 18 f, TN
Headen, Thomas, 12 m, TN, sch
Headen, Magaret, 11, IL,sch
Headen, Brantly, 10 m, IL, sch
Headen, Georgana, 3, IL
Headen, Samuel, 7, IL
[Thomas S. Headen household, 1850 U.S. census, Morgan Co., IL, population schedule, p. 292, 1711-1731; National Archives micropublication M432_122.]
FYI, when considering the above children in relationship to historic naming patterns, the only children that appear to be named for the Moore side are Margaret and Samuel. Many of the RootsWeb WorldConnect entries for Thomas S. and Margaret (Moore) Headen show their children as follows (my notes on naming patterns are in []ís):
Phebe Ann Headen, b. 19 Jan 1821
Elizabeth B. Headen, b. 25 Apr 1823 [possibly named for grandmother Elizabeth Berry Moore]
Amanda C. Headen, b. 18 Jan 1825 [possible Moore side connection in that Margaret Moore Headenís brother, Ashley Moore named a daughter Amanda Clementine Moore, b. 2 Jan 1840. Have not found a female ancestor with this name. Possibly it was just a popular name for the time]
Ferrell D. Headen, b. 20 Feb 1826
Harriet Ellen Headen, b. 15 Feb 1829
Mary F. Headen, b. 14 Apr 1831
Sarah Jane Headen, b. 27 Apr 1833
Thomas Caldwell Headen, b. 20 Nov 1835
Margaret Emily Headen, b. 15 May 1838 [probably named for mother, who was possibly named for aunt, Margaret Berry Campbell]
Brantly Jones Headen, b. 29 Dec 1840
Samuel S. Headen, b. 26 Mar 1843 [possibly named for grandfather Samuel Moore]
Georganna Headen, b. 8 Sep 1846

As to the death date of your Ann(a) Maria Headen Freeland, I have no information. However, she is not listed in Robert D. Freelandís 1860 household, shown as follows:
Freeland, Robert D., 62, farmer, $4000/2500, NC
Freeland, Thomas M., 18, farm laborer, TN
Freeland, Ann M., 13, TN
Freeland, John J., 9, TN
Shultz, Taylor, 18, farm laborer, MS
Freeland, Jane, 36, spinster, TN
[Robert D. Freeland household, 1860 U.S. census, Henry Co., TN, population schedule, Dist. 18, Buchanan P.O., p. 484a, 2117-2149; National Archives micropublication M 653_1256.]

I wish I could be of more help!! KC
