About my grandfather, E.W.Heacker's Obit
The Obit. I posted is a fragment. I don't know how much is missing. He left 10 children, the last of which, Effie Dey, was not born until 7 May,1904,almost five months after he died. She died (12 Jul,1991), during one of ourHeacker Family Reunions on the Hiwassee College campus,in the Tennessee Mountains. As soon as she died, we were notified by telephone. My father, Edwin Crowell Heacker, was only a year old when his father died.(b.15 Jul,1902, d.3 Jun,1977, Mobile,AL).The other eight Heacker children were, from the oldest, Leona Kate (the artist)b. 17 Dec,1881, d.7 Apr,1917. William Frank,(b.7 Jun,1883, d.Dec,1925), (Married at least 3 times...1. Vaughty Lee Calloway, accidentally murdered.2.26 May,1909, Ida LaBelle Lynch.3. ? ...Dr.Herman Everett Heacker,(b.7 Jun,1886 d.30 Oct,1946. James Benjamin,(b.2 Oct,1888 d.15 Mar,1955) m. Flossie Cunningham.Ella Mae Heacker (Dees), 25 Mar.1891, d.6 Dec,1966, m. Wesley Meck Dees (b.2 Feb,1884, d.3 Sept,1950)Louretta Arnold Heacker Sharp Peterman (8,Jun,1894 - 14 Apr,1963) Armeldia Crawford , (15 May, 2897 - 2 Jun,1985) marr. John Jack,(1 Jun,1886 - 15 Mar,1961),Nettie Eloise,(20 Aug,1899 - 6 Aug, 1905), buried near her father. E>W>Heacker,son of Dr. W.J. Heacker , of Mineral Hill Springs, was born 29 Nov, 1857 in Frankfort, KY, and marr. Margaret Catherine Croxdale(b. 25 Dec,1861 d.20 Apr,1930).
There's a lot of information on the Croxdales. I've been to one of their big reunions near Knoxville. My father and their boys followed each other to Knoxville, Mobile.and wherever they could find work during the depression. I have letters Dad wrote home during that time. I was named after Crowell Croxdale, who had a lot of sons in Mobile. I'll post the obituary of my grandmother, Margaret Catherine Croxdale online. EH
