Hello again Warren,
I was going back through some email data which I have accumulated and thought that you might be interested in this posting to the Hazel List. I am not sure if Mr. Groenenberg's e-mail address is still current.

Re: Caleb Hazel and his step-children:
They were Elizabeth, Levi, David, and Henry. Ths is from some
old (1970s) correspondence I recently received. The source of her info
was not included. Was glad to see the post citing the document from
Nelson Co., KY! James Hall, the father, was killed by Indians.
Caleb and Mrs. Hall had Richard, Lydia, Peter, and Caleb Jr. Richard was
born 14 May 1786. Caleb Jr. was born ca. 1791; he married Mary Atherton
on 13 Jan 1813, and died in Monroe Co., IN, in 1854.
Re: Caleb Sr. (from the correspondence): He settled in Hardin Co., KY.
He may have been from NJ, but moved to KY from Hampshire Co., VA (now
WV). He was in Hardin Co., KY, by 1789, living on Knob Creek. He moved
to Green Co. KY ca. 1806, and later back to Hardin Co. He was living on
his Green Co. farm at the time of his death. He died on a boat on the
Ohio River, while on the way to visit his son Peter, ca. 1833.
In 1795, Caleb Sr. was appointed surveyor of a road from the "mouth of
Knob Ck. to Hazel's cabin".
Caleb Sr. was Abraham Lincoln's school master. It is thought that he
also operated a tavern/ordinary for a while.
Caleb Sr. married 2) Mary Stevens. Their bond was 12 Oct 1816 in Hardin
Caleb Sr. served in the American Revolution.
Caleb Sr. is possibly the son of Peter Hazel of Hampshire Co., VA.
And that's just about it. Hope this is helpful. Also, please -- if you
see errors here, or have more information, please let me know. Thanks!
