Happy New Year Donna,
Yes, I was away on a 2000km round trip for the holidays.
It is very interesting that you have a Paper Trail back to 900. Have you considered undertaking a dna test to use as a benchmark for others that may be related to your line?
Most researchers out there would be envious of having a paper-trail so far back.
When did your 'Howard' Line transform to the 'Hayward' Line?
My own line of Haywards go back only to 1730's in Kent England with both dna and papertrail support, but the surname was around, in the same area, from at least the 1500's but I cannot link to them at present, although one of the DNA Testing Companies has declared that my YDNA is of the same variety that is 'pre-AngloSaxon in England.
If you have a male relative surnamed Hayward you could ask him to have his YDNA Tested at FTDNA and we can compare how close our relationship might be.
Are any of your Haywards from the Kent area of England?

Cheers
Dennis
