Herbert and Rose Hayward, Birmingham, England
I would be grateful for any assistance with tracing the roots of my grandparents on my mother's side of the family.
I never knew my grandfather Herbert James Hayward. He was killed in the First World War in March 1918. My grandmother Rose (maiden name Taylor)was left to bring up a family of three young girls-Ethel (my mother), Hilda and Helen.
I do know that there was a strong association on the Hayward side with the Downes family-particularly since one of the Downes children went on to become a world famous conductor with the name of Sir Edward Downes.
On my grandmother's side I do know that her father was Albert Taylor and he was a fluent linguist-especially in French.
Any help would be welcomed.
