Hayter brothers shot by marshall, King City, MO
Anyone hear of the story of the two Hayter brothers who were shooting up the town of King City, MO on Christmas day, 1885.An article in the Kansas City Star, 26 Dec 1885, tells the story which ends with the brothers being shot to death by the marshal. He was then in danger of being lynched by Hayter friends. Unfortunately the paper never mentions the first name of the Hayters.
I am interested because there is a tombstone in Omer Cemetery, Arcola, Dade, MO,which has the names of two Hayters. The death dates are the same - 2 Jan 1886.One I know is only about 31 years of age.His name is Elbridge Theodore (E.T.) Hayter and the other is W.T. Hayter. E.T. is the son of Robert Mitchell Hayter.
Since the shooting date and the dates on the tombstone are close and there are two Hayters involved, I am trying to rule in or out that this may be about the same two people.
If anyone has the answer, please reply.
Thanks,
