Have you considered that Creed was more than likely a son of Tavner and Elizabeth Hays (listed as Favner on 1820 census in Clay/Tavner in 1830 Laurel)? My 3rd gr grandfather was John Hays, b 1800/01 VA (probably Grayson Co.) who married Jenny/Jane Callahan.I have always felt John and Creed were brothers. In some census years, they lived a couple of houses from each other. Tavner Hays was s/o John and Elizabeth [??] Hays who lived in Grayson County VA.In 1810, Tavner lived in Wythe County VA.Tavner was also listed as "Farmer" Hays on an early Clay County tax record. He (Tavner) was a bondsman for the marriage of James Davidson and Rachel Allen Noble in 1829, grdau of Joshua Allen b1738.There is speculation that Tavner's wife was anAllen.(It is primarily because of his being bondsman for this marriage that I do believe Elizabeth was an Allen.) She was listed as Elizabeth on a Grayson County VA record, and William Allen of Grayson, (no known relation to Joshua), deeded property to Tavner, but there is no proof that I can find that she was an Allen. His name is sometimes spelled Tabner. My email is [email protected]
