In his will dated ca. 1819, Charles Hays, of Smith County, Tenn. mentions one of his sons, John, as living on the Missouri. It was thought he had married a Betsy Estes in Tennessee and had moved to Cape Girardeau where he became High Sheriff. I have never seen any proof that the two Johns are one and the same.
It is believed that Charles Hays is some how related to Robert Hays, brother-in-law of Andrew Jackson.
Charles' wife was named Elizabeth and was possibly his second wife. His father was John Hays who died in Smith County ca.1814-15. He left a will.
