I'm also researching Joseph Hays and Jemima Allee. The actually marriage record you are refering to is on page 112 of the Franklin County, Virginia Marriage Records and contains the following record: "Hays, Joseph and Jemima Alley, dau. Joseph Hale,Mar. 31, 1788. Sur. Richard Hale." Notice it says Jemima's father is Joseph Hale, not Nicholas Allee! This marriage record is for Franklin Co., not Montgomery county where her family lived. And at that time I think she would have married at home. I really don't think this is our Jemima; there were several Joseph Hays in the area and Jemima was a common name at the time. But I've also seen Nicholas' will and he names Jemima Hays as his daughter. And I know several Allees moved to Barren and later on to Indiana, so I'm sure our ancestor Jemima Allee Hays is Nicholas' daughter. What I'm questioning now is: Is the Hays that Jemima married really Joseph? She married a Hays, and was mother to Charity. But if the only link to Joseph (I have no DOB or DOD for him) is this marriage record, and the record is actually for another Joseph Hays and another Jemima, then which Hays did our Jemima actually marry? There were four Hays (Charles, John, Lewis, and Luke) listed on the 1782 Montgomery County tax records. I'm still researching their lines for a link to Jemima. Please let me know what you think. I also have a story of Nicholas being wounded in the French-Indian war that I will be glad to share. And are you looking for Pleasant Byee? I have a theory about him also. Hope to hear from you soon cuzzin! Notify Administrator about this message?
