I descend from Edward L's son "Lorley" as you have listed here. His real name was Lovely (awful...I know.), and they never seemed to get it right on any of the census.

The name back then seemed to be spelled Hays. Lovely R spelled his name that way for the earlier part of his life, but in later years the "e" was added in. Lovely's own son, as far as I know, always spelled it Hayes. Hence, my spelling is the way it is.
