Hays Family - Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky
Needing information on the family of Jessie (Jesse) Monroe Hays (aka. J. M. Hays).I have his wife's name, marriage certificate, and all documents for him and his descendants from 1861 to present.
Based on an 1850 census, Titus County, Texas there is listed
James Hays . . . 25 . . . Born in Tennessee
Elizabeth Hays . . . 20 . . . Born in Tennessee
William Hays . . . 12 . . . Born in Tennessee
Jesse Hays . . . 8 . . . Born in Kentucky
Amanda Hays . . . 5 . . . Born in Mississippi
Nancy Hays . . . 2 . . . Born in Texas
The death certificate for Jessie Monroe Hays lists his birth as 20 April 1836 (a date which I feel as wrong, because he states on his enlistment during the civil war period in 1861 as being 19 years of age (placing his birth around the year 1841/42 as does the above mentioned census), also on his confederate pension application he states he is 62 years old in 1902 (placing his birth around the year 1840/1841) and he states that he has lived in Texas for the past 57 years (which would mean that he came to Texas some where around 1845.
In another source, an article written by his grand daughter, still living and almost 100 (he has quite a few grandchildren still living), she states he was born in Kentucky.
He has resided in Johnson County, Texas; Parker County, Texas; Denton County, Texas; Ellis County, Texas; Grayson County, Texas; and Coryell County, Texas. He enlisted in the confederacy in Titus County, Texas (close to Rusk County - East Texas area).
In a land grant he had received from the Governor of Texas in Coryell County and in his Confederate land grant application the names of Booker Hays, Marth Hays, David Pilkenton, and A. W. Pilkenton are mentioned (his wife's name was M. M. Pilkington . . . Martha . . . whom he married in Johnson County, Texas in 1866).
I received a e-mail from a Bobbie Hays in May of 2002, that gave me a good deal of information, however, she only had information relating to Jesse since 1860 to present, and I have not been able to contact her since (lost e-mail address for her).
If any of these names means anything to anyone, or if you have any information . . . please contact me . . . Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!Thank you!
