Happy Days!!A reply to one of my letters. I do not have a lot of info on Christopher and Eve Hays, but do have some odds & ends. Have you been to Cape Girardeau Co.? I was there last summer & saw the tombstone of Eve Hays, which was unearth- ed about 2 years ago. I live in Oregon so don't get back to the midwest that often.
Contained in OLD WESTMORELAND THE HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF WESTMORELAND CO, PA. Published by Southwest Genealogical Services, Laughlintown,PA are numerous short references to Christopher Hays and in some cases Eve also. Mostly in reference to real estate transactions. He is also mentioned as a Commissioner & Tax Assessor at different times. He was a contemporary of George Rogers Clark of later Lewis & Clark fame, but they were apparently adversaryies rather than friends. There were a number of Hays individuals living in Westmoreland Co., PA at the same time as Eve and Christopher. Probably at least some related, but I have found no proveable connections.
When Christopher died in Cape Co. in 1808 he did not leave a Will. I received information some years ago, source I do not remember, that said his estate named four heirs as follows:
John Hays1776-1856
George Hays1775-1821
Polly Hays?-?Married Robert JOhnson
Rebecca ELizabeth Hays ?-? Married 1st Hendersonmarried 2nd Thomas Neely. The same material says "from other records we have learned that Eve and Christopher raised Eve Tyler. This same article goes on to list families of these kids, including Eve Tyler, which you no doubt have.
Christopher was also used by an Idros Riley Wildman to join the DAR under #529497. This was in 1967. I have tried unsucessfully to locate her
I you have any specific questions I will be happy to try to answer them.
