I was just looking through some old posts on this forum and came across this one. I recently purchased a 64 page booklet with the "Battle Hymn of Hayes" in it. "Hayes Family History" by J. Montgomery Seaver published in 1929 and republished in 1971. No credit is given for the origin of the song, but it is word for word as you have written it in your post. A note of explanation... "Nil Desperandum" mentioned in the chorus is the family motto and is translated as "Never Despairing". It appears on a banner below the family coat of arms on the cover of the booklet. Sorry I couldn't give you a definite answer on the author of the song. Always searching for the past.....
