Sarah,
This Ransom Hayes may well have been a part of the great migration of families from the Burke/Lincoln county area to Hawkins county in the 1830's, including Laurence and Henry Setzer, the Odoms, Beans, Turnmires, John Shell and his son Azor and Azor's team of carpenters. The Greens in Hawkins were largely descendants of Jeremiah and his wife, Anne Hartley from (then)Ashe county.
In 1849 Ransom Hayes, who married Sarah Green, donated 25 acres of his land to the newly formed county of Watauga upon which to establish a county seat near Council's Store which was then named Boone.Sarah Green was a niece of the Jeremiah Green that had "removed to Hawkins county".Sure to be a connection here, but I've not figured out exactly what it is.
By the way, I tried to e-mail you directly, but got bounced.Did your e-mail address change?
