HAYES from OK to TX in 1800's/1900's
I have been trying to locate any information for the following ancestors with no luck at all (a similar story to most of the HAYES posts I've read) so I am assuming there is a genetic trait we should all be aware of...an elusive group at least.
My grandfather was Roy Hayes, b. 1895, Cleveland Co. OK
A sister, Alice Hayes, b. 1892, (possibly Cleveland Co.)
A brother, Jim Hayes, b. 1885, (possibly Cleveland Co. also)
I have some information about these three siblings but mainly would like some information about their parents and have been unable to turn up anything, not even first names or if there were other sibs.
What I have been told:My gr grandmother (Roy's mother) died during childbirth in OKLAHOMA sometime between 1896 and 1900 or so and that is when her grieving husband, (?) HAYES, moved what was left of the family to TEXAS (Callahan Co. area).
It is reported that he bought the property in Texas, sight unseen, and threatened the seller that if it wasn't an honest deal that he would come back and kill him.Shortly after moving to Texas he is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself when Roy was about 9 years old, over the grief of losing his wife. That puts the year of his death at approx.1904.There was one story that he was a sheriff but that possibly could have been my gr gr grandfather from my ROSE ancestors in Texas.
Jim Hayes, the oldest son mentioned above, married Mary Anne (Annie) Bennett, b. 1886, and lived in Callahan Co. (maybe Cottonwood), TX and had two daughters, Josie and Lucille, and a son Nim.Jim and Ă…nnie took care of raising Roy after his father died.
Alice Hayes, the daughter, married Bee Newton, (cousin to the Newton Gang boys), lived in Cottonwood and had three sons.Names, Roy, Maurice and maybe James. My grandfather Roy used to hang out with the Newton Boys in town when he was young.
My grandparents, Roy and Roxie Rose, b. 1904, Haskell(?), TX, married in 1920 and had my father, Robert Lee Hayes, b. 6/1/1921 and Louise Hayes (Strickland), b. Oct. 1923.Roxie and Roy lived in Cross Plains, TX until their deaths in 1970 and 1981, respectively.Louise has lived for years in Abilene, TX and was married to Fieldon Strickland. My father, Robert moved to Los Angeles in 1940's and died there in 2000.He is buried with his parents at the Cross Plains Cemetery in TX.
I hope this makes sense and that somebody may have some information about these HAYES.
Thank you in advance for your help.
