Dee,
I am a descendant of Thomas Neel Jr. and Jean Spratt through their daughter Sarah who married David Johnston. According to a monument erected by the DAR near the Catawba River in South Carolina, Jean Neel was scalped by Indians. In letters written to Mr. Draper prior to his writing about the Battle of Kings Mountain, a grandson of Jean Neel wrote that Jean went to Kentucky with her daugher and son-in-law the Hawthorns. After James death, his wife and Jean Neel were said to have moved to Alabama.
Do you have any info that might help me with my search? Do you have a copy of the estate papers for James Hawthorn?
Any help will be appreciated.
