Does anyone know anything about Alfred S. Hawes--born 1816 in Rutland County, Vermont. In later censuses, he indicates that his parents were from Massachusetts. He was married in 1838 in New York and they later moved to Whiteside County, Illinois, where he died in 1903. We have checked records in Rutland County, Vermont and have found nothing. We did find a Samuel P. Hawes in Whiteside County, Illinois, but cannot tie him to Alfred S. Hawes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, since Alfred seems to have lived under the radar for most of his life. Thanks, Sue Bowen
