Sure - George paid for his boat trip, so he was not "indentured" to anyone when he arrived in America.
He used the term in one of his letters, as I recall.
He wrote, "come as a free man", or something like that.
Sadly, no one wrote, or came, in response to his letters.
We have never been able to find any reference to the boat he came on, except in his hand written letters.
