I am seeking information on my GGG grandfather, Samuel HAWORTH/HOWARTH. He was born in Blackburn, Lancs abt 1850. I believe him to be the son of Samuel HOWARTH (b. Manchester abt 1825) and Hannah (nee ?, b. Houghton abt 1825). In the 1861 census, this family resided at 7 Spring Street, Blackburn. The younger Samuel is listed as a cotton weaver, at age 11. In 1869, Samuel married Mary HIRST (b. Burnley 1849). They had 3 children: Hannah (1870-1954), Elizabeth (b. abt 1873), and James (b. abt 1881). In the 1871 census, Mary is listed as married, living with daughter Hannah, but Samuel is not there. In the 1881 England census, Mary is listed as widowed, living with Hannah and Elizabeth, but son James has not yet arrived. I am assuming that Samuel died in the first quarter of 1881, but I cannot find a matching death record in the BMD entries under HAWORTH or HOWARTH in Lancashire between 1880-1881. Elizabeth HAWORTH later married George SWARBRICK and had at least 3 children (John, Annie, and Harry). Hannah HAWORTH (my GG grandmother) later married Abraham LIGHTBOWN, had 5 children, and emigrated to the US with her mother Mary in 1910. Mary (Hirst) HAWORTH died in Massachusetts in 1933, Abraham in 1949, and Hannah in 1954. My questions: Where was Samuel Haworth/Howarth in the 1871 census? When and where did Samuel Haworth/Howarth die? What became of Samuel and Mary’s son James? Notify Administrator about this message?
