Delvan Hawkins obituary NE
From BB Lovell, His obituary as it appeared in the paper.
Asa Delavan Hawkins was born in Spring Grove, Green County, Wisconsin, March 1, 1879, and died at his home in Ulysses, NE, Nov. 17, 1924, aged 45 years, 8 months, and 16 days. At the age of five years, he removed with his parents to Hamilton Co., where he lived until grown to manhood. He was united in marriage to Victoria Wolfe in Sept. 1903. Three children were born to them. Byron, aged 18 years, Frederick 12, and Goldie 8 years old, who with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. He was one of a family of 8 children, all of whom survive except one sister who, with their mother, preceded him. They are: Mrs. Emma Coxe of Hamilton, and Mrs. Laura Gunn of Geneva; Will of Topeka, Kans., Ira of Davenport, Ray of Fairfield, Earl of Fremont, with their father Wm Hawkins of Fairfield.
Deceased had been ill for some time past suffering from leakage of the heart and tho' unable to work, yet kept going and, often was seen at work when he was utterly unable. He made a great effort to win out in the battle of life but death came suddenly.
In this hour of sorrow no words avail but, the Heavenly Father will care for the widow and orphans.
The Ulysses friends will miss the presence of the kindly man who even when the seal of death was discernible in his countenance yet, struggled to overcome disease and be one of the daily workers.
His funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 19, 1924. Rev. Weary officiating. Interment was made in the Ulysses Township cemetery.
