Pat,
Oh, thank you for the wonderful information.I have seen where other researchers have married Elizha to Elizabeth Guthrie/Guthery and also Elizabeth Lawson.
If he truly m. within the year of the 1850 census, maybe there is a marriage record showing who this Elizabeth is.Convenient to marry a person with the same first name. Will not run the risk of calling them the deceased wife's name!
On Ancestry.com it shows the following:
U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 Record
about Elisha Hawkins
Name: Elisha Hawkins
Gender: male
Birth Place: SC
Birth Year: 1800
Spouse Name: Elizabeth Guthery
Spouse
Birth Place: SC
Spouse Birth Year: 1806
Number Pages: 1
Do you know how accurate this source is?The second Elizabeth would not have been the mother of all those kids listed in 1850.I wonder if she brought any along?
I need to go back and review the number of children Elisha had in 1830, 1840 & 1850.
I have the marriage record of Eliza A. Hawkins and Samuel S. Kelly in 1850, Benton Co., AL.
The 1850 census record for them is actually recorded in 1851.
I have not plotted the second land patent of Elisha, just the two that he and Samuel S. Kelly bought on same day in 1854.Wonder if Elisha helped his newly wed daughter out in the purchase of the adjoining land??I am just now learning how to plot them.
I will send your info along to a descendant of George Dallas Hawkins.More heads working to gather info the better.
Thanks again for sharing.
Keep in touch.
Beverley
