The original immigrant family of Henry Hawkins, wife Ellinor and young son John Hawkins came from England to charles County, Maryland around 1665.Henry was wealthy and well educated holding governmental positions.
Ellinor died around 1681 and Henry remarried Elizabeth Holland Wynn(Wine) widow of Francis Wynn.He had children by both wives.
His research lists the following children for Henry Hawkins:
1) John Hawkins (my line comes from him)
2) Henry Hawkins, Jr.
3) Henry Holland Hawkins
4) Ruth Hawkins Keech
5) Ellinor Hawkins Tubman Smallwood Philpott (yes 3 known marriages)
6) Mary Hawkins Lowe
7) Elizabeth Hawkins Lewis (moved with hubby back to Great Britain)
8) Thomas Hawkins (died young)
9) Martha Hawkins Bayne
My book on pages 15 & 16 states the following:
"Martha Hawkins born c. 1687, not named in her parents wills, but found in a deposition dated July 14, 1756, at the age of 74 years, where she states she was present at her father's house when the Reverend George Tubman was married to Ellinor Hawkins by her father, then a justice of the peace for Prince George's County.A similar deposition was taken for Mary Lowe, sister of Martha.Martha was married to Walter Bayne (c. 1682-1754) a son of Captain John Bayne and Ann Hawkins."
It does not explain how Ann Hawkins may be related. The text then goes on with information about four children, their marriages and several grandchildren. Those four children listed are william Bayne (c. 1729-1826), Thomas Bayne (c. 1728), Ebsworth Bayne (c. 1719-1793) and Walter Bayne (c. 1721-1782).There is no mention of a daughter Ann Bayne. There the information about this branch ends.
I am not aware of any success in tracing Henry & Elinor's family back in England.Their marriage record and son John's baptism record can be found on the free LDS website.
The next chapters go into greater detail for the families of the first three children I listed: John, Henry Jr. & Henry Holland Hawkins.
No other Baynes except this family is listed in the index and there is no index entry for a Gerard.
