Leonard Hawkins 1917 and Nona Hawkins 1912
Looking for ancestory.Gfather Leonard Edgar Hawkins born White Co. 11/15/1917 died Searcy AR 9/20/88 buried Augusta AR and married Nona Emma Frances Hawkins born Port Gibson MS 1/30/12 died 12/28/87 Searcy AR buried Augusta AR
Made home in Cotton Plant Arkansas - children Frankie, Archie, James (father), Robert, Frances, Patricia, and Emma (still birth - he marked the grave with a drive shaft).
Leonard had several syblings but I know only of his brother "Uncle Dukes" who lived in Pontiac Michigan and two sisters who passed away when I was young. He told us a story of being left for dead in a wood shed at 7 or 8 yrs of age with scarlet fever because the family couldn't afford medicine and they feared the sickness would spread among the syblings. His brother sneaked him food until one day he emerged from the shed.He stood tall and cast a big shadow from that day on.
He was a tall man, over 6', with black hair.Family lore has it that he was part Indian (blackfoot).
Nona's maiden name is unknown to me but family guesses it was WALTERS.She was a beautiful woman.I believe she was Irish.
All four sides of my lineage originated in Mississippi and Arkansas.I guess that is a good place to start the search.
Any information on either's ancestory would be greatly appreciated. We have a large family but are producing fewer with each generation.A true lineage would mean a lot to us.
