The Benjamin Hawkins about whom I wrote was not the Indian Agent - I have hit a real stone wall with my Benjamin, who died in 1745.The Indian Agent was the son of Philemon Hawkins of VA.His legal wife was Lavinia Dowd by whom he had one son and at least six daughters. There was a lot of marrige among the people in the area and the Creek Indians; McIntosh was a Creek.Benjamin the Indian Agent was in the American Revolution and influential in making several treaties with the Georgia Indians.I have foundsix Benjamin Hawkins in that area in the same time period, complicating my research greatly.David Crockett's mother's people were from Maryland, from where I believe mine migrated.
