BINGO! BINGO! BINGO!I first read your message some months ago, but MY Clarence Percy Hawkins, b. 1868 in Michigan, is the VERY PERSON you describe in your message.
I confirmed it with the 1880 Federal Census for Monroe, Monroe Co., Michigan. One "O.B. Hawkins", married to "Mary E.", is listed as farmer, with two children, Clarenc [sic] P., age 12, and Harry C., 7. (ED 183, page 29 A, image 28 of 33)
All my previous searches turned up nothing because I hadn't noted the mis-spelling of Clarence. Also, I thought Clarence was from Allegan Co., Mich., because that's were he settled after he married my great-aunt.
He married my grandfather's sister, a recent Scottish immigrant by the name of Catherine Elizabeth Robertson, and they ended up in San Francisco, California in the early 1900s, after many moves to Massachusetts, Arkansas and Texas. He was a travelling salesman, and tracking this family group down has been most frustrating!
Clarence P. died abt. 1937 in San Francisco, and my great-aunt in 1953. See my notes in Ancestry.com World Family Trees (I am posting your info to this tree tonight!)
One of their children, Irene Beatrice Hawkins, married one Nolus Guy Harris, whose family tree is also posted. You also have Harris relatives! Two other children were married and lived into the 1980s, and I'm pretty sure they have Hawkins descendants in the Bay Area, but I have been unable as yet to locate. The last child, John C. Hawkins, was a war hero of the Battle of the Bulge (1944), and may have later died of his wounds.
This family group grew distant with mine (my family were East Coast and Indiana) over 50 years ago! It's WONDERFUL to make contact!
Please e-mail me as soon as you get this message.I have much material and some family photos to share!
