Hi Bob,
Assume you've seen a brief mention on IGI showing a Maria Hawkins b.17 Sept 1788 at White Lackington? This is quite near Milverton? Only other references I can see are Mary Hawkins, e.g. Mary Hawkins born abt.1771 in Milverton and later married Charles Bailey? I also looked on my copy of Phillimores Parish Records and found only a marriage between Maria Hawkins of Stogumber and Gulielmus Bartlett of Monksylver in Whitelackington 7 Jun 1724.
I think there's a link between your Maria and my Hawkins family but its going to take some work! The area is awash with Hawkins - through the Somerset area and in my case, into Devon (Holcombe Rogus & Uffculme & Burlescombe).
Edward and Grace Hawkins had 5 children, one of whom was Thomas who married Ann Yea in Ashbrittle. One of their 8 children was Thomas who married Sarah Clarke in Holcombe Rogus in 1805. My family remains in Devon until about 1850 when they moved up to Bristol. My research goes into many hundreds of individuals.
I think it is likely that the connection is that Maria could be a child of one of Edward & Grace's children but, as I say, you'd need to do quite a bit of work.
Just a final point - have you met the names Wednesly, Vickery, Furze or Maunder - these are possible link clues as far as I am concerned.
Good hunting!!
Ian
