Carol - Your message has made my day!I suspect that your father may have been the Kermit Hawkins we've been looking for.Because a Kermit Hawkins produced a very large and beautiful "peace" sculpture in the early l960s for then Sec' of State Dean Rusk, we assumed that he would have been in Washington, DC.The l9l0-l978 Kermit Hawkins was the only one we could find in Washington. However, your father's background sounds much more than coincidental. The sculpture was presented by Dean Rusk to Canada in l963 to commemorate l50 years of peace between our two countries (I'm in Amherstburg, Ontario) and is now stored in the archives of Fort Malden National Historic Site here in Amherstburg.Do you have some way of knowing if your father did in fact create this wooden sculpture for Dean Rusk?Anxious to hear from you.
