In the future I also hope to add all Hawkins listed in the 1850 census for all states north of the Ohio River, Western Pa, west to California (minus TX, OK, Ark, Mo., & Kansas) & all of New England. If you have a request for a particular known county in a area mentioned above, feel free to e-mail & I will try to post this information ASAP. If any information doesn't quite look right please point it out. Due to imperfections of the microfilm (scratches, poor film development) and most notably census takers who couldn't write worth a flip, many of these transcriptions were very difficult to read. Please understand there may have been an error w/ my interpretation of the census writers handwriting (or mine for that matter). A question mark next to an entry means that I had difficulty reading the text, not that I question the validity of the information. (i.e.., Josh? means that I think maybe the census writer wrote Josh, not that I doubt his name is Josh) This makes for some interesting ?'s. Several times I have found boys w/ girls names & vis versa. The sex of an individual will be noted only if that person has a questionable name such as Pat or Chris or a name with a unusual spelling.
I will always ask anyone who may find information of interest to please go back & DOUBLE CHECK the census page & to please check the entire town for additional information that may have evaded the census indexer.
A good research tip! Very often relatives & close family friends had a tendency to migrate across the country with each other & to settle as neighbors.
I am only a novice genealogist. I do not do queries beyond the info that I already have but I will be more than willing to share this or any other information that I come across.I have registered a club page with Yahoo for anyone interested in discussions that would otherwise tie up Gen Family Forum. Please feel free to participate.

As you can see by the club title "yankeehawkins" I have a personal interest in New England Hawkins ancestors & descendants. Most of the information that I have collected thus far have focused on these northern branches (as well as some info on recent immigrants {arriving after 1800}). If you have any questions concerning southern families, good luck in your search, there are literally thousands of Hawkins families "in them there southern hills" & unfortunately I don't have the time to do the research. Maybe someone could volunteer to transcribe & post the southern states. In the future I do hope to research the families that had settled along the southern bank of the Ohio & the shores of the Mississippi Rivers. I also hope to finish the 1850 census for Pennsylvania as well as start the Maryland, Delaware Kansas & Missouri 1850 census.
