Hawke - millers & woollen factory in Bodmin, CNW
I am interested in any information about Hawke & Co, millers at Dunmere Mill, Bodmin, Cornwall from about 1760, run by Richard Hawke (abt 1730 - abt 1815), followed by his son William (1760-1830).In 1881 it was run by Jonathan Hawke (1849 - ?) and continued in the family (known children Alfred C. b.1876; Eva J. b.1878 and Francis W. b. 1880) until after 1935 - the business was closed by 1939.There is a missing link between William and Jonathan.Any information about the family and the water mill (photos taken before the new road cut the building in half?) would be much appreciated.
Another son of Richard Hawke, also Richard 1758-?), acquired an old tannery at Clerkenwater in 1794 and turned it into a Woollen Factory, and this was continued by his son John (1793-1876) until after 1851.His only surviving son, also John (1839-1877), went to live in France, so if the business continued, it would possibly have changed its name.Any information about this business would be appreciated.
