I'm looking for the parents and siblings of my fourth great grandfather, Jacob Hawk, b about 1780.This Jacob Hawk married Mary Ann "Polly" Warren, and they were in Warren County, TN around 1829.
Other researchers in my family have some conflicting info regarding Jacob's birth place. Some say he was born in Abingdon, VA. Some say he was born in Warren Co., TN.Some say he was born in PA.
There is some evidence that the family, at some early point, was in PA.This bit of info came from a Missouri newspaper blurb regarding the above named Jacob's grandson, William "Gee" Hawk's wedding anniversary which states that Gee came to MO with his father who was a native of PA.We have no evidence that the above named Jacob returned to PA after coming to TN, which leads me to wonder whether they were in Warren Co., TN by 1780.The family began migrating to Madison County, AR about 1829 and seem to be completely removed by 1838.
Some of our family researchers state that Jacob died in 1829 and that his widow married Martin Johnson in Warren Co., TN.However, there is a land document posted on the TNGenWeb site that states a Jacob Hawk died in Warren County in 1824.There is speculation among our family researchers that the Jacob who died in 1824 is a relation to Jacob who died in 1829.
Some of the families associated with my Hawk family are Drake, Johnson, and Combs, and in fact, the families migrated to AR and settled in Madison Co., AR within close proximity of one another.
Another problem that raises a question is the surname Grove. My third great grandfather married a Grove but we don't know her given name. His name was John Hawk, son of the above named Jacob. He was born about 1805, some say in TN and some say in PA.In that same newspaper blurb it states that "the mother [Grove] died in McMinnville, TN."
As far as we know, none of our Hawk's were ever in Ohio, but the Hawk/Grove union makes me wonder whether there is some connection between my Hawk's and the Hawk's you mentioned.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Thanks for any info.
