It may be helpful to clear up an incorrect conclusion drawn by the _Victoria History of the County of Warwick_, 4: 217, footnote 20, which is a discussion of Hillfield Hall in Solihull, a property owned at one time by William and Edmond Hawes (grandfather and father of the American immigrant):
"The property had been bought by Thomas Hawes of Shirley in 1311: Pemberton, op. cit. 38. Ralph Bovey died in 1630 seised jointly with his wife Ursula of Hillfield Hall (Chan. Inq. p.m. [Ser. 2], cccclxxii, 151); his wife is said ([by] G.E.C[ockayne]., _Complete Baronetage_, iii, 117) to have been 'sister of Richard Aldworth of Reading', but seems more likely to have been a daughter of William and Ursula Hawes. Their son Sir Ralph Bovey apparently sold to George Fielding (died 1671), from whose son Robert it passed to the Greswolds of Malvern Hall: Pemberton, op. cit. 39-44."
The implication that Ursula, wife of Ralph Bovey, was _nee_ Hawes -- whether the daughter of William or Edmond -- would seem to imply that the line had "daughtered out" (which, in turn, might cast suspicion on the claims of the American family to be descended from the Solihull Haweses).
Fortunately, however, there is quite adequate proof that Ursula, wife of Ralph Bovey, was actually an Aldworth, as stated by Cockayne, and not a member of the Hawes family. First, her will is abstracted in _NEHGR_, 46: 445, and clearly mentions her brother Richard Aldworth:
URSULA BOVEY of London, widow, wife of Ralph Bovey of London Esq., 25 April 1643, proved 3 April 1647. Lands in Shorne, Kent. Son Ralphe Bovey. Brother Mr. Richard Aldworth. Sister Mrs. Sara Charke's younger children. My lands in Sillhill (sic) [i.e., Solihull], Warwick. My daughter Anne Davies, wife of Mr. Priamus Davies of Coxhall, Hereford.
