I am French . I have made a lot a research about my family.
The Havy come from brittany. They were leaving in the "Côtes D'Armor" dêpartment ,in villages around Merdrignac town, and were coalmen(in the woods) or ploughmen . The first Havis I have found was born in 1653 in Laurenan. The spelling of the name was HAVIS until 1704 when I find some modification into HAVY. After 1785 the name was always written HAVY in every villages of the area.

There were in the same time many Havy in The Seine Matitime department who were Protestants and apparently not linked whith us.
