Yes, Neil, we pronounce it the same way in the States. Maybe I just had a lot of "cockney" friends in the U.K. Trust me, they would have pronounced Avis (Ayvis) the same way; i.e., Hayvis. It's nice to know that we're represented in Scotland. I would like very much to visit Scotland some day--I got to Wales a couple of times, because I spent the last 6 months working in Bristol, but we were so busy that, even though I had vacation (holiday) time coming, I couldn't take even a week off. Where does your father live? And how far back has he traced the Havis line? Do we have a coat of arms? Cheers, Pat
