Dear Mark,
Re. your postit to Penny: William Haviland appeared with Frank Benson in an engagment at the Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, commencing 23rd April 1906. During this three-week Shakespeare festival he appeared as Bolingbroke in "Richard III", and in the title role of "Henry IV".
It might also interest you know that only yesterday, Friday, I found that early in William's career at the Lyceum Theatre, London, Benson played County Paris in "Romeo and Juliet" for the first three weeks of the new season, commencing 2nd September 1882. William played Balthasar in this production, for the second time; he had ended the previous season with one week (24th - 29th July 1882)in the part, the first time he is named in the programme. Henry Irving was the Romeo.
Keep on digging.
Regards, Edward.
