I suspect this is his family in the 1870 Census in Jefferson Twp., Owen County, Indiana.

George Haviland, age 37, born Ohio, farmer, assets $2500, $400
Catherine, age 32, born Ohio, keeping house
Charles, age 11, born Indiana
Wilson, age 9, born Indiana
Melissa, age 7, born Indiana
Grant, age 5, born Indiana
Sabina, age 4, born Indiana
Oliver, age 1, born Indiana

The household enumerated before them:
Sylvanus Haviland, age 27, farmer, born Ohio (It looks like the census taker put his assets on the line above his)
Francis (female), age 29,keeping house, born Ohio
Thomas, age 3, born Indiana
Mary, age 2, born Indiana
Sylvanes, age 77, farmer, $3500, born New York
Mary, age 68, house keeper, born in Baden

Then in 1880, the family was still living in Jefferson, Owen, Indiana:

George Haviland, age 44, born Ohio, father born in Pennsylvania, mother in Germany
Catherine, age 42, born Ohio, parents born Ohio
Charles A. age 20, born Indiana, parents born Ohio
Melissa, age 17
Ulysses G., age 15
Sabina, age 13
Oliver, age 12
Ettie, age 9
Corneilius, age 8
Lydia A. age 5
Paris, age 4

In 1900 Catherine was widowed and living with her widowed son in law, William Kreible in Jefferson.

In 1900 there was a Charles in Jackson Twp., Spencer County, Indiana.

Charles Haviland, age 40, born July 1859, born Indiana, parents born Ohio, farmer, married 9 years
Lucy J., wife, age 41, born Aug. 1858, 7 kids, 6 still living
Walter W.,son, age 8
Perry W.,son, age 5
John R., son, age 3
Lou G. Sisels, stepdaughter, age 15, born Illinois, parents born Indiana,

I found a different Charles A. Haviland in 1910 and 1920 living in Wabash Twp. in Adams County, Indiana. He was 40 and 50, born in Indiana, and married to Estella in 1891. They had one child who was not living in 1910.

I also found Lucy J. Winkler in the 1870 census if you need that information (father was Elijah and mother Lucinda.)And it looks like her first marriage was to Allen Sirrels.

Hope this helps.
