My 17 year old son and I just got back from a trip to Europe and we even passed through Munich. I wish I knew my ancestors before this trip. It would have been nice to visit Oberboihingen and Reudern and maybe to even to have had a beer with you. You mention a book that was written about the south-german Haussmanns. Do you know what this book is called or if it can be purchased in English?
As far as I know there are 2 different Haussmann-"tribes" in Germany. The first one has its origin in Tennstedt/Thuringia with Hans Haussmann (1582-1636), parts of this family went to Colmar/alsace and later to France. Most famous member of this family is Georges Eugene Haussmann , the prefet of Paris (1853-1870) under Napoleon III. The second one has its origin in Oberboihingen/Baden-Württemberg in the Southwest of Germany, not far away from Stuttgart. The history of this family the most south-german Haussmanns including me belong to started with Hans Haussmann (about 1450 - about 1525). Members of the government of the state of Baden-Württemberg but also of the german government (Helmut Haussmann, Minister of Economics 1988-91), and some stage-managers like Leander Haussmann are the most famous members of my family. A book was written of the south-german Haussmann´s genealogy und quite a lot of members of the family went to America in the last 300 years. Feel free to contact me if you belive to belong to the swabian Haussmanns. (Christopher Haussmann, Munich/Germany)
