Hi cousins!
I,too,am a descendant of Charles David Martin Bonshire Ferdinand HAUN.
He changed the last name spelling from HAHN.His father's name was indeed Martin HAHN, according to what my grandfather gave me.Martin was married to Mary Ann BONSHIREthat was on the geneology sheet that was given us. Martin's father was Martin HAHN married to Anna Catherine HEINZEROTH.
This is where I am confused, because if his name was really Karl, then I have no idea which way the family history goes.If we stick with what was given to me on the sheets, then I do have alot more geneology.
I am the daughter of Raymond Glen HAUN.My grandfather was Joseph Charles HAUN, his father was Niel Raymond HAUN, son of Charles David Martin Bonshire Ferdinand or Fernando HAUN/HAHN.
The story is very true about Charles deserted Johnston's army.He was caught a first time and they branded his forehead with a D for deserter with a hot branding iron.
He escaped a second time and hid in the Jordan river in a thicket of rushes or reeds. He weighed himself down with a rock and breathed through a reed under a bridge.
When it was safe for him to get out of there, he ran into the Salt Lake valley.
I am working on putting what geneology I have onto my new website here... it will be a few days.Once I get it up, you are welcome to look at it and add your families to it if you like.
Talk to you later.
Lori
