Hi Paul! Anton and Dorthea were my great-grandparents. They had a son named Adolph, but I guess if he was your father or your grandfather, you'd have mentioned. Did your ancestors also pick Haug, because that's where they came from in Norway? Anton Kristianson Haugswanger and Dorothea Petersdotter Hausmoien camed from Oladen Norway in the early 1880s. They were married at South Park River, May 9, 1884. Their first child, Carl, was born near Park River. They returned to Norway and Carrie was born in 1886, all coming back to America, six weeks after her birth. They farmed near Oladen Church. They eventually homesteaded in what is now Fairdale. Anton had taken the name Haug, his brother, Carl, the name, Wanger. I see in land records, an Anton Haug, had land nearby, but he was not related. My Grandmother Dena, was one of twelve Haug children. Can you trace your family back to Norway? My youngest aunt (Maxine) has connections in Norway, so we know the ships that Anton and Dorothea came on to America. My father, Eddie Barlow, told me of many fond memories of life in Fairdale, visiting his grandparents as a young child and young man. He continued to travel back for visits and it was a sad day when GGrandpa died in 1942, and GGrandma in 1951. My aunt has the stained glass bay window from their home, that she salvaged from the wrecking ball in the 70s. Grandma Dena lived to 94. She had an eventful life, raising her own twelve children in Grand Forks, comimg to live in Indiana, near us, bringing the children who hadn't come already. She was an incredible person, going to work in a munitions plant to help the war effort in WW2, than, with the war over, went to school to become a licensed practical nurse. She was the best role model! I wish you good luck with your family. Thanks for answering the email that connected us. Betty Barlow McDonnell
