Hattons of Maryland / Hattons of Cheshire England

Dear List-

I keep coming across queries about the connection between the Hatton Family of Maryland (Richard Hatton of London d.1649 and his brother, Thomas Hatton, The Secretary of the Province of Maryland d. 1655) and the Hattons of Cheshire, England. Most recently a request from a Mr. Chas. Fisher Ames in 1948 asking how Thomas Hatton connects with the Hatton in Visitation of Cheshire, Vol. 18 Harleian Soc. Piblications, p. 113.

Is there a connection that is readily obvious that I just don't see here? Or, is this just another example of researchers seeing a last name that fits and jumping to conclusions?
