Ok, I know there's been some discussion in the past about who Baton's father was. Many people have wondered and asked the same question since it doesn't seem like there's a clear connection. Well, I've stumbled across some information that may actually reveal who his father is. Understand that this is theory and not based on documents but logical assumptions. According to the 1830 census for Warren county, we have Baton listed. I'm sure this comes as no surprise to everyone but if you look a little further down, you will find an Irwin Hattaway who's living a couple doors down. This information doesn't seem really significant until you look at the children of Irwin. Irwin had a son named James BATON Hattaway. James had 2 sons that he named James BATON Hattaway and Thomas BATON Hattaway. We also know from census records that Irwin and Baton were both born in North Carolina. Irwin actually moved down with 2 other brothers named Elisha and Abel. We know from records that Thomas's sons were Irwin, Elisha, and Abel of Pitt County, NC. I'm drawing the assumption that Thomas is Baton's father based on the fact that I think his brother was Irwin. I could be wrong and welcome anyone with evidence to the contrary because I don't want to go down this path if it's not correct. So any ideas are welcome. An interesting side note is that Thomas was a revolutionary war soldier. Let me know what you think. Notify Administrator about this message?
