That picture is a different Baton and John. Baton of Washington County would have been about 110 years old in 1902-1903. He died in 1876. His son John died in 1888. His grandson, John Lee Hattaway, was indeed born in 1855, the same year as John H. Hattaway who is in the picture with his father, James Baton Hattaway.

Very confusing, but as far as I'm aware the source of that photo is the James Baton Hattaway clan, and it's him (Bate) and his son John, not the Baton Hattaway of Washington County.
