Hi Karen, I'm descended from Elisha and Tabitha (Downs) Hattaway. Except for Elisha's father's name which is William (based on Elisha's son William's statement that his grandfather's name was William), this is conjecture based on early North Carolina land records, but I think William's father is Thomas, and that Thomas' father is David. I will have to find my paperwork to try to determine why I thought that. There is a David Hattaway who died about 1798, who had sons John, Aaron and William. This William could be ours too. I estimated our William as being born about 1763, so he would have been about 35 then. If you email me, I'll keep the email until I can find my notes and then you you more info. Dianna
