Charlie:
I don't know if I am related or not. My 3rd great grandfather, George Miller is said by a researcher, Mrs. Beulah Braden from Anderson Co., married a Nancy Hunter, dau of Francis Hunter. A Francis Hunter was bondsman for the marriage of A George Miller and Nancy Hunter Sep 9, 1814 in Grainger Co. I have found this Francis Hunter in Grainger Co. in 1796 and in 1799. He was also bondsman to the marriage of a William Hunter to Tempey Hill Sep 7, 1817. Also in Grainger Co. marriages is a John Miller to Tempy Hunter Sep 25, 1826 bondsman Hugh Jones. Rice Whiteacre to Nancy Hunter Aug 14, 1804 bondsman Mathew and William Hunter. Daniel Miller to Peggie Hunter Apr 22, 1819 William Hunter bondsman and a Thomas Hunter to Elizabeth Drake Oct. 24, 1816. I have plenty of info on Rice Whiteacre so don't need that. I can find no connection unless his wife Nancy Hunter is dau of Francis Hunter's son James Hunter.
This Francis Hunter, according to Mrs. Braden ,is suppose to have been born in Ireland in 1749 and came to America as a soldier in the British Army.He is suppose to have m. Margaret McCauley in 1787 in Augusta County VA. Had children William, James, Nancy, Peggy and maybe others. He is suppose to be the Francis Hunter that married in Grainger Co. Mary Neill Dec. 19, 1821, bondsman John Brown. I found a Francis Hunter m. Margaret McCauley in Chalkey's Chronicles.
My family tradition is that George Miller m. Carolyn Longmire. I can find no info on any CAROLYN Longmire. They are suppose to be buried in Andersonville but I can't find their graves. Their son, Michael Miller m. Nancy Woods and lived in Andersonville, TN. I have all their children. Michael was born in 1813, before the George Miller/Nancy Hunter married in 1814, and is buried in Bethel Cemetery, Anderson Co. TN. along with Sarah.
Francis Hunter's great grandaughter, Ellen Hunter married Andrew Braden according to Mrs. Braden. I don't know who Ellen's father was.
I found in Anderson Co. Deeds in 1838 an Agreement between A George Miller and Francis Hunter. Francis was leaving George his belonging in return for George taking care of him. I don't know if this is my 3rd great grandfather or not. This is what I am trying to find out.
The fact that Nicy Hatmaker Hunter is buried at Braden Flats and married a Francis Hunter makes me wonder if this Francis Hunter is related to the above Francis Hunter.
Mrs Braden has the Daniel Miller that m. Peggy Hunter in Grainger Co. as a brother of George Miller and has Peggy Hunter as a dau. of Francis Hunter and Margaret McCauley. She has Daniel Miller's dau. Louisa Elizabeth Miller married a William Preston Whitaker. Another dau. Malinda Jane Miller married Thomas Aaron Hatmaker May 10, 1859 in Campbell Co., TN son of Jacob Hatmaker.
I am going crazy trying to prove or disprove George Miller and Nancy Hunter as my 3rd great grandparents. I gave up trying to trace George Miller and am trying to trace Nancy Hunter.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all you have sent so far.
