Frances,
Think I found your Aaron Hatley in Blount County, Tennessee in 1850. In the big books I check for census for the entire state of Tennessee, he is listed as HATTY, Aran age 30 TN, Mary age 24 TN, Elziah 4, Jane 2 Dwelling 1219-169. This book doesn't give place of birth for everyone, just first two people in each household. It also doesn't list sex unless it is initials.

In the 1860 census he is back in Cocke Co., with no wife. He is age 41 , also listed: Eliza J. 10 , John H. 8, W. G. 6 (male), Mary A. 4, William 2, LUMILLE, Telitha age 23, LUMILLE, Sarah S. 1. Dwelling 15-380.
