I have two of Douglas Hathcock's book and another Hathcock book
by Debra Baugh dealing with the descendants of Benjamin Hathcock.
My line from Benjamin is Dempsy abt 1772; Walter Dempsy 1808,
who married 4 or more wives moving from Montgomery Co,NC to Cass/
Bartow Cos,GA, and by 1840s west to Montgomery Co,AR where he was
one of the first settlers and descendants remain in area to present.
Walter Dempsy moved away about 1875...to Jack Co, TX where he
remained until his death. His wives were: a Miss Logan who died
in GA; Milberry who died abt 1857
in Montgomery Co,AR; Mrs. Louisa Nichols Patterson, a widow who
Dempsey married in AR and they were in Montgomery Co,AR 1860
census. Louisa had a large family also from her Patterson marriage.
They housed their children from 3 marriages in two cabins a few
feet apart on top of a hill in Gap Township,Montgomery Co,AR. One
of the cabins is still standing ....the foundations
of the other can still be seen. Louisa left Dempsey to accompany
her older children to Texas about 1870-72...Louisa left 2 young
children she had by Dempsy, Billy & Dulcenia Arzelia, with Dempsy,
who quickly got another wife named Loucinda...a very mean stepmother.
Dulcenia, my great grandmother ran away and caught up with her
mother eventually....they went to Navarro Co,TX. Dempsy and
last wife Loucinda remained in Jack Co, TX and had several more
children including twins Jacob and Esau b.abt 1880, one of them
served in WWI....I have extensive information on this branch of
the Hathcock family, it's a complicated one. Be glad to do look
ups in my 3 Hathcock books....Judy HAMMOND Bowman Rhodes
