Your William might be a descendant of Thomas Hatchett, born about 1708 in Va. and 2nd son of John (aka the immigrant) Hatchett Thomas had a son, William, who moved to Caswell, N.C. William had a son, also named william, born about 1781 who married Rhoda Powell. Other children were Joshua, John A, Thomas, and several daughters, names unknown William's children were born in N.C.and,according to the 1880 and 1870 censuses, your William was also born in N.C.There were an awful lot of William Hatchetts and I couldn't find yours before 1870.I have a partial Hatchett history and not much on Thomas.
